Safety proffesional since 1990 following Diploma in Safety Management. Specialising particularly in the area of materials handling, particularly fork trucks, initially and now specialising in peripatetic engineering and general office, warehouse and production safety. Like so many in our proffesion, I also wear the environment and quality hats and get involved in Business Process Mapping and Business Continuity. Never a dull moment!!
My personal interests range from being a Cub Scout Leader to being a certificated pyrotechnitian and often the two interests are combined! I am very strongly in agreement with the move by HSC to differentiate between H&S practise and litigation shyness. I believe that far too many organisations use the H&S flag to prevent people from doing things that are perfectly reasonable. I am glad to say that the Scouting Association has managed to avoid this pitfall, predominantly, and continues to offer a full range of exciting outdoor activities to children of all ages. A sensible, risk based approach is all that is required.
