PUWER fine

Prosecutions and Claims |
01.12.2006

Derby magistrates have fined Ilkeston Fencing £8,000 plus full costs after an incident in which a teenage employee had two fingers cut off by a radial-arm circular saw. An HSE investigation into the accident found that 16-year-old Matthew Raymond Peet had not received proper training or supervision. On 19 October the company pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 9(1) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations and Regulation 3(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations. The hearing took place on the eve of this year's European Week for Safety and Health at Work, which focused on the safety of young people at work.
