Re: FLT Training
All operators must be re-tested regardles of age at least between three to five years after their last test. This is nothing to do with age or medical. However once an operator reaches the age of 40 then they must be screened for fitness to operate as previously mentioned. However if the operator is off work for one month (or shorter if it is felt the reason for absence may have affected the operators ability to operate) then an assessment should be made of the operators fitness to operate. This is in effect a re-test of his/her practicle skills and ability. HSG6 also offers advice on medication, alcohol and illicit drugs as well as guidance on restrictions following for example a diagnosis of angina.
Hope this helps. Terrance from Safertraining

Re: FLT Training
HGS6 states in Para 18 that for persons over 40 it is recommended that have a relevant medical and for those over 65 it should be every year.
Note the key word "recommended".

Re: FLT Training
Hi Peter, It certainly is - the law requires any FLT operator over 40 to undergo a medical every five years.
FLT drivers should be reliable and responsible people, with appropriate physical/mental capabilities. Selection testing may be useful.
Medical considerations include:-
Pre-employment fitness screening is recommended, as are 5 yearly checks for the over- 40's.
General health, particularly mobility/agility
Vision, which should not normally be less than 6/12 with both eyes
Hearing
Try the FLT Association - they have some great fact sheets

It has been suggested to me that persons over 40 operating a FLT has to be re-tested. Could this possibly be true?
