Corus payout

Prosecutions and Claims |
01.03.2007

A survivor of the November 2001 Port Talbot steelworks explosion has won a six-figure sum in compensation from his former employer, Corus. Peter Clement suffered 43% burns and other injuries in the blast which killed three people and injured 11 others. Corus admitted failing to ensure workers' safety and accepted civil liability for the accident. The High Court fined the company £3 million in December 2006 for health and safety breaches. The explosion was caused by a build-up of leaking water in a blast furnace.
