Metal-products maker Chatsworth Forge has been fined £6,500 plus £1,443 costs by Worthing magistrates after a worker ripped the skin off his hand. Reginald Brown was drilling "T" section metal  when the unguarded tip of the drill caught his gloved hand. Brown underwent a skin graft and muscle repair and was off work for three months. HSE Inspector Russell Beckett noted the company had failed to heed previous HSE warnings and near-miss incidents. For more on safety gloves, see the feature on page 43 of this issue.
