Prosecutions and Claims |
01.04.2007

Leicestershire building contractor Tony Mortimer has been ordered to pay almost £94,000 in fines and costs for an incident in which a poorly erected tower scaffold fell over, killing bricklayer Daniel Leighton. Mortimer pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 3(2) of the Health and Safety at Work Act,  which requires self-employed people to conduct their undertakings in a way that does not threaten other people's safety.
