Violence toolkit launched
Jocelyn Dorrell | News | HSP
03.10.2008
A new toolkit to help employers in retail and licensed premises manage the risk of workplace violence is available on the HSE website.
The HSE worked in partnership with local authorities to develop the resource, which provides practical advice on risk assessment and actions to take to prevent or control work-related violence.
It outlines a range of possible control measures, grouped under five headings: work environment (for example CCTV and lighting); working practices (such as cash-handling procedures and opening hours); training for employees and managers; legal options (banning anti-social individuals); and partnership working (with the police, local authority or other local businesses).
The toolkit also contains guidance on coping with the aftermath of a violent incident, from notifying the police and providing medical care to offering longer-term support to those affected and the legal issues that may arise.
The toolkit can be downloaded here. Click here to read our feature on supporting victims of workplace violence.
