PUWER fine for crushed fingers
Prosecutions and Claims |
01.08.2006
London magistrates have fined Ian Goom, trading as Aztec Screeding, £3,000 plus £3,028 costs under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations for failing to prevent access to dangerous parts of machinery after a worker's fingers were crushed. In December 2004, 18-year-old Robert Haywood was working at the Wembley Stadium site, operating a high pressure cement mixer and pump. As he emptied a bag of cement into the mixing chamber, his hand was dragged into the machine. Three of his fingers had to be amputated. The machine was missing its safety grille, which prevents access to the mixing paddles, and a safety interlock switch had been bypassed.
