Well you're clearly damned if you do, and damned if you don't. Of course it's important that police officers, lifeguards and other public servants pay attention to their own health and safety - otherwise, you just end up with even more dead or injured people. But these people are there for a purpose, to assist the public in times of danger and difficulty. They need proper training, clear guidelines and our support in a difficult and potentially dangerous job.
The question to ask is: why do we only hear about the mistakes and catastrophes, and not the many well executed accident management procedures which we all know take place on a daily basis?
