CORGI passes baton to Capita

News | HSP
29.08.2008

The HSE has announced that Capita Group will sign the contract for the new gas installer registration scheme on 8 September.

The contract is valued at £14 million a year and is awarded for a 10-year term.

The HSE revealed in June that professional support services provider Capita was its preferred bidder for the new scheme. Capita beat rival bidder CORGI (the Council of Registered Gas Installers), which currently manages installer registration.

The new scheme will run from April next year and will implement recommendations from the HSE's 2006 review of the domestic gas safety regime.

The HSE - which regulates domestic gas safety via the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 - will oversee the new system.

The executive said the introduction of the new Capita brand would "provide an excellent opportunity to promote gas safety messages."

Capita also manages the BBC's TV licensing and provides the IT infrastructure for the Home Office's criminal records service.
