I strongly disagree with the proposal.
It demonstrates, if such were needed, how completely out of touch with health and safety the government is!
With HSE changing departments responsible for it almost at the speed of sound-bite, it is clear that ministers and officials see H&Safety as yet another opportunity for a quick headline.
Other recent "sound bite opportunities" include the proposals to:
a. Give sex education to under 4s.
b. To allow Mullahs access to impressionable children care of the latest government initiative.
c. Allow teachers assistants to teach "core subjects" at a low level.
d. Harsher sentences for drink drivers.
It appears that government is fast running out of ideas, and feels that PC sound bites are good replacements for policy!
Although the one on drink drivers may get more "Sun Reader" support, it is unclear how it will resolve anyone getting behind a wheel after a night out! (Not that many can enjoy many nights out anymore due to rocketing prices and petrol at £5.00 a gallon!!)
So the "proposal" to include H&S in the curriculum is no surprise.
Question is; What will be removed to allow its inclusion? Will mathematics or spelling be dropped? Can we expect visits to building sites? Think of the journalistic opportunities there!!!
