Job titles give no clue

News | HSP
26.06.2008

According to a recent study, industry job titles are so wide-ranging that it's difficult to know who is responsible for the health and safety in an organisation.

In May, Norwich Union Risk Services carried out a study of visitors at the Safety & Health Expo, asking which person in their company managed health and safety. Of the 91 questioned, 41 different job titles were received.

A fifth of those questioned said the health and safety manager, while other responses included compliance officer, operations manager and even human resources director.

Do you think the study suggests that those responsible for health and safety have too many other responsibilities? Discuss here.
