Plutonium fine

Prosecutions and Claims |
15.09.2007

The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) has been fined £15,000 for failings that led to a worker breathing in plutonium at its Dounreay site on the north coast of Scotland. In January last year, Brian Grant was exposed to the radioactive material while he disposed of contaminated bricks in a laboratory. The UKAEA said it has revised its risk assessments and specified respirators for operators handling low and intermediate-level waste.
