Weetabix fined for unguarded machine

A Weetabix employee lost the tips of his fingers after his hand was caught in an unguarded machine, Kettering Magistrates' Court has heard.
In August 2006, the 58-year-old employee was trying to clear a rotary-valve blockage when his had became caught in the valve's moving parts.
Weetabix pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 11(1) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, which requires employers to prevent access to dangerous parts of machinery.
On 12 June, Kettering magistrates fined the company £3500 with £1490 costs.
