News | HSP
02.01.2008

A former Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Inspector has been made a Dame in the Queen's 2008 New Years Honours List.

Sandra Caldwell was appointed Director of the HSE's Field Operations Directorate in December 2003. Prior to that, she held the posts of Co-Director of HSE's Policy Group which evolved from her role as Director for HSE's Health Policy. These roles all included membership of HSE's Board.

She joined HSE from industry in 1976. After having trained as an inspector she has held a number of posts in operations, such as Chief Inspector of Construction and Policy. She has also been seconded to other Government Departments on three occasions.

Ms Caldwell's responsibility as Director of Field Operations involves all field activities bar major hazards.
