Cement burns

Prosecutions and Claims |
01.08.2006

City of London magistrates have fined a construction company £15,000 plus £7,000 costs after a plasterer suffered serious burns while laying a cement floor. Kevin Creak was working for Essex-based Galliard Homes at a site in West London and knelt in concrete for five hours with no protective clothing. The company had no risk assessment or method statement for the work, and neither Creak nor the site manager knew about the hazards of wet cement. Galliard Homes pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
