Proper training has been forgotten

In the November Issue Of IIRSM News Letter, John Hill raised the issue with reference to the 2 Community Police Officers (PCSO's) who it was said on the UK national news, stood and watched a 10 year old boy drown in a lake, the officers superior was reported to of said that these officers are not trained to deal with such incidents.

In the December issue of the News letter, I sent in a letter to support John Hill on this very same incident, I said that it would not of mattered whether or not someone was trained, commom sense would of dictated that an attempt would of been made to try and save the boy, both of us also called for the disbandment of the Community Police Service, as they only came about due to the general public wanting to see more visible policing on our streets, another Tony Blair legacy.

In February's issue of the News Letter we have a response from Mr Geoff Lloyd Deputy Chairman of IIRSM, also a retired Head of safety for the Metropolitan Police, who tells us that it was 2 fishermen who told the 2 officers of the boys drowning and that it was they who did nothing, I now question who had the right information at the time that it was reported on the UK TV National News, or does the Chairman of IIRSM have his own source of information that doesn't reach the ears of the public.

Finally, I have been a fisherman all my life and I have never known fellow fishermen to just leave anyone in distress either on a river or a lake, my experience is that they have always tried to help others in such situations, to which there are many reports over the years of such events.

Therefore I stand by what I said in my letter of December, page 11 of that issue.
