Hammond in clear

Prosecutions and Claims |
01.03.2007

The HSE has cleared Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond and the BBC of any wrongdoing over the crash of a jet-powered car last September. Hammond was trying to break a land-speed record at an airfield near York when one of the car's tyres delaminated at 288mph. Hammond received head injuries but has since made a full recovery. HSE investigators decided the crash cannot be pinned on Hammond's lack of experience in the vehicle and that the BBC's safety procedures were not deficient. The investigation is now focusing on tests on the Vampire car's tyres.
