Roof fall fine
Prosecutions and Claims |
01.12.2006
A £2,000 fine plus £8,400 costs have been handed down to timber firm Timbmet Rochdale after an employee was fatally injured falling 10m through a rooflight. Logistics manager David Carter had gone up on the roof to unblock guttering which had caused flooding in the factory and halted production. The company admitted ignoring problems with the guttering and not having an adequate risk assessment for work on the roof. Trafford magistrates fined Timbmet the maximum £20 000 for an offence of failing to protect Carter under Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act, plus £5000 for the lack of risk assessment under Section 3(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
