HSE powers up

News | HSW
01.10.2006

The HSE will take over sole responsibility for safety regulation in the electricity transmission and distribution sector after a transfer of part of the Department for Trade and Industry (DTI) Engineering Inspectorate (EI) in October. The consolidation was recommended in last year's Hampton report on reducing the cost of regulation. The EI is responsible for the public safety aspects of overhead power lines and electricity distribution networks. The HSE says the move to a single regulator will simplify matters for business.
