Welder blinded by grinding disc

A welding firm has been fined £10,500 after an employee was left blind in one eye after a metal-cutting disc shattered and a shard pierced his visor.

Gateshead magistrates decided that the accident at Weldex's Gateshead premises in August last year was the result of cost-cutting.
