£20,000 finger fine

Prosecutions and Claims |
12.12.2007

Walkers Midshire Foods has paid £20,000 in fines and HSE costs for failing to safeguard an employee who lost the tops of two fingers in a meat chopping machine.

Paolo Fernandes had stopped the machine to remove a blockage at the company's Leicester factory when his hand came into contact with the 25cm blade, which was still spinning.

Magistrates heard the company has since installed guards to stop limbs coming close to the blades.
