HSE visits down

News | HSW
01.06.2006

The number of inspection visits by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) fell by around one-third between 2002/03 and 2004/05, from more than 74,000 to around 55,000, according to figures obtained by the TUC. The union body says that the HSE's talk of more targeted enforcement conceals serious cuts in field resources.  "Negligent employers who risk their employees' health and safety can now do so safe in the knowledge that the HSE inspector is only likely to come calling once every 13 years," said TUC general secretary Brendan Barber.
