WEEE regulations come into force

News | HSW
01.02.2007

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations came into force on 2 January, more than a year after the EU's implementation deadline of August 2005. Under the regulations, producers (manufacturers, importers and resellers) of electrical and electronic equipment must meet the costs of collecting, recycling and treating WEEE. Distributors and retailers also have obligations under the new law to take back consumer WEEE free of charge. More information is available on the Department for Trade and Industry's website at www.dti.gov.uk/innovation/sustainability/weeepage30269.html
