Firm fined after scaffold fall

Prosecutions and Claims |
01.02.2007

Merseyside Coatings has been fined £13,000 plus £2,730 costs after an employee fell four metres from an unstable scaffolding tower while shot-blasting a tank at the company's Widnes site. Warrington magistrates heard the tower had not been erected by a competent person and there were no outriggers installed to make it safe. The company had carried out a suitable risk assessment, but neglected to act on its findings and had no safe system of work. Merseyside Coatings has three previous convictions for safety offences.
