De Menezes plea
Prosecutions and Claims |
01.11.2006
The Metropolitan Police has pleaded not guilty to a charge under Section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work Act over the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, shot dead by police at Stockwell tube station in July 2005 after being mistaken for a suicide bomber.
The Crown Prosecution Service's decision to bring charges under health and safety legislation was again questioned by the Met, which anticipates that the trial will be a "test case" for the police service nationally. The case is expected to be heard at the Old Bailey next year.
