In the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics, the HSE has announced the creation of a new post. Stephen Williams is to take up the new role of director of field operations (London) and the Olympics.
Stephen will lead the health and safety regulation of the 2012 Olympics, with special emphasis on the construction phase. He will also have responsibility for the HSE London Field Operations Division, while continuing in his current role as chief inspector of construction until the post is filled.
Since joining the HSE in 1977 as a factory inspector, Stephen has gained a wealth of experience in health and safety. He has worked on large construction projects such as the Channel Tunnel and Dartford Bridge and headed up HSE's construction policy team. He became HSE's chief inspector of construction in 2005, and has been director of FOD London Division since November 2006.
