Some 40% of employers surveyed by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) said help from doctors for employees with mental health problems was very or fairly poor and only 20% said workers were well supported in returning to work.
The CIPD claims GPs' lack of understanding means employers lose billions of pounds a year from mental health-related absence.
