HSE to review offshore progress
News | HSP
07.07.2008
The secretary of state for work and pensions, James Purnell, has asked the HSE to review progress made by the offshore industry in tackling safety issues raised by last year's KP3 report.
The report followed a three-year investigation by the HSE's offshore division, which found wide variations in safety performance across the industry.
The HSE's offshore division was established as a result of the inquiry into the Piper Alpha disaster, 20 years ago this month, in which 167 people died.
HSE chair Judith Hackitt said the offshore safety review would "be a fitting and timely way to ensure that no one becomes complacent and that we all maintain vigilance to ensure that the lessons of the Piper Alpha tragedy are never forgotten."
