Dressing up can cause injuries

News | HSW
01.04.2007

Performers who dress up as characters such as Mickey Mouse, Sleeping Beauty and Captain Hook at Disney theme parks worldwide suffer high workplace injury rates. Reports submitted by Disney to the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration show that around one in three of the 1900 workers at the company's four Florida parks suffered injuries in 2005. Common hazards include costumes weighing up to 27kg, which can cause musculoskeletal disorders and heat exhaustion, and violence from young visitors.
